1951 - 1961 A.D.

Devarajeevanahalli, Jalahalli, Jodikempapura, Kadugondanahalli,
Kethamaranahalli (Rajajinagar), Yeshwanthapur included in the city.
1954 A.D.

Vidhan SoudhaThe Vidhana Soudha, that houses the State Secretariat and the Legislative Assembly was built. Kengal Hanumanthaiah, Chief Minister of Mysore State between 1951-1956 was responsible for the concept, the structure and the setting of the building. Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone for the building.

1955 A.D.

Bangalore went on air with the commissioning of a Radio Transmitter in the city on 2nd November, 1955.
1956 A.D.

Bangalore became the capital of Greater Mysore State. This State was formed by uniting all the Kannada speaking areas according to the linguistic basis of the States Reorganisation Act of 1956
1961 - 1971 A.D.

Industrial townshipsThe Industrial townships of HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited), BEL (Bharat Electronics Limited), HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) and ITI (Indian Telephone Industries) were built.
 
1964 A.D.

Bangalore University Library.  Bangalore University was set up as was the British Library.


1971 A.D.

Hotel Ashok
Bangalore got her first five-star hotel - Hotel Ashok.


1973 A.D.

Bangalore was retained as the state capital after Mysore State was renamed as Karnataka
1981 A.D.

T V Tower

Bangalore sets up its own TV station on the 1st of November.



1985 A.D.

GPO
The new General Post Office building, with its grand-entrance and imposing columns of classical design was inaugurated in 1985 on Raj Bhavan Road.
1987 A.D.

Deccan Yellow Pages

Bangalore became the first city in the country to introduce the "Yellow Pages" concept that was already famous worldwide.

1996 A.D.

Miss World Beauty pageant A politically and culturally landmarked year for Bangalore: Bangalore played host to the Miss World Beauty pageant, the first time it was held in India and Shri H.D. Deve Gowda from Bangalore became the Prime Minister of India, another first for Bangalore and Karnataka.
1997 A.D.

ISKON Temple
Bangalore went mobile by introducing the first Cellular Phone Services by AirTel.
On 31st May, ISKON's world famous Sri Krishna Balram Temple was inaugurated by Shri Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then President of India.
On the same day the 4th National Games was inaugurated at the newly constructed Kanteerava Indoor Stadium at Koramangala.
1999 A.D.

Bangalorebest.combangalorebest.com - South India's first e-commerce infotainment site launched in September!
2000 A.D.

Sirsi Flyover was opened to public to reduce the traffic from some of the major bottle-necks in the city.
