To feel refreshed there's nothing like a spray of water
on your face. So motor down to the Shivanasa mudra,
where the river Cauvery divides into two streams and cascades 75 mts
down a deep rocky gorge. The two breathtaking water falls named Bharachukki
and Gaganachukki are at their spectacular best during July-August.
Shimsha - Asia's first hydroelectric project set up in 1905
is just 1.5 kms from Shivanasamudra.

JOG FALLS

Jog Falls is a graceful reply to the Niagara's breathtaking waterfa lls.
The river Sharavathi orchestrates power and sheer beauty here. It
flows amidst huge rocks and boulders. Leaping from a height of 292
mts it divides itself into four falls - Raja, Rani, Rocket and Roarer
- presenting a glorious view.
The best time to visit this place is during the monsoons (June
- November), when the falls are at their impressive best. At other
times you can enjoy the scenic, natural ambience and the abundant
wildlife.
Honnemaradu, the wild life sanctuary near Jog is an added attraction.
It is a centre for adventure, conservation oriented activity and
nature study. The most attractive feature here is the water sports
activity starting from swimming to canoeing, kayaking, coracling
and rafting. Apart from that, other adventure activities like rock
climbing and trekking are possible. Honnemaradu is also the headquarters
for Western Ghats Restoration Project.
Mupane, a wildlife sanctuary is another hotspot worth visiting.
It is just 11 kms from Jog.

It
is the most popular weekend spot for Bangaloreans, so a definite
no-no for relaxing! However you can have fun if you go in a group.
A scenic spot at a height of 1,455 mts above sea level, you can
enjoy a beautiful sunset or just drink in the beautiful view of
the surrounding districts especially at night.
A flight of 1,175 steps lead from the base of the hills to the top.
On top was Tipu Sultan's summer retreat and remains of Tipu's fort
bear this out. Tipu's Drop, a 600 metre high cliff face, where prisoners
were hurled down the precipice is an awe-inspiring sight.
Sir Mark Cubbon, when he was Commissioner of Bangalore made this
his summer residence. Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Queen
Elizabeth II were among the other dignitaries who enjoyed their
stay here. More recently, Rajiv Gandhi and the SAARC delegates chose
this spot for a retreat after their international deliberations.
So get set for an enjoyable picnic with loads of fun and numerous
games. Conferences are possible here, at the Cubbon House. The Department
of Horticulture lets out rooms to tourists. The reservations have
to be made in advance at their office in Lal Bagh..
At the top the
hill is the Yoganandishwara temple.
