KARWAR
The beautiful Devabagh Beach in Karwar is said to have inspired Rabindranath
Tagore to write his first play! Once an important trading centre for
the British, French, Portuguese and the Arabs, this charming town
has a port that is protected from the harsh winds by five islands.
While there, don't miss the Sadashivgad Hill Fort with a Durga
temple and the Naganatha temple, where an anthill is worshipped. Both
are sure to leave an everlasting impression on your mind.
A few kilometres from Karwar is Yana, famous for its unique
rock formations, and is a favourite haunt for all rock climbers.

GOKARNA
Literally
meaning "cow's ears", Gokarna is the land formed by the ear shaped
confluence of two rivers.
Famous for its Sanskrit learning centre, Gokarna also has one of the
Jyothir Lingas. Close to Gokarna is the Om Beach and the Kutle
Beach which are worth a visit.

MALPE
Malpe, which is about 6 km from Udupi is an ideal picnic spot. Its
virgin beaches, endless stretch of golden
sands, graciously
swaying palm trees, the clear blue skies and the gurgle of the sea
all set a perfect mood for an unforgettable holiday.
St. Mary's Island, another delightful get-away across Malpe,
is only a boat-ride away.

MANGALORE
Mangalore is a city of vivid contrasts. On one hand
you see narrow winding streets with cozy, red-roofed houses and on
the other there are lofty coconut trees lining the beautiful beaches.
The city also has its share of temples, mosques and churches.
The most notable
places of interest are the 10th century Manjunatha Temple, St.
Aloysious Chapel, Mangala Devi Temple, Tipu's battery, the Jumma
Masjid and Ullal Beach.
Towards the
North-East of Mangalore is Pilikula Nisarga Dhama, an integrated
park for tourists. Buffalo race (called "kambala") is
an exciting local event held annually.
Yakshagana,
a night long dance-drama with richly clad dancers performing vibrantly
to the beat of drums is unique to Karnataka and attracts a lot of
people here.
About 28 kms
from Mangalore is Naraharigudda, a quiet and calm hamlet
surrounded by natural scenic beauty.
