The
two-day Global Investors' Meet (GIM) came to a grand finale on an
enthusiastic note, netting about Rs 20,000 crore from 19 projects
to be set up in Karnataka. Besides these, the state received 157
proposals from the participating investors. All the delegates at
the meet were amazed by the pace at which the S M Krishna government
handled the situation. The CEOs and the heads of the numerous business
conglomerates who had come to attend the meet made noteworthy quotes,
excerpts of which are below:
"Karnataka
has one of the most progressive leaderships in India." - Enron CEO
and President of the American Chamber of Commerce in India, Sanjay
Bhatnagar.

chose Bangalore over Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi keeping in mind the

the CM of Karnataka, S M Krishna at a private lunch.
"Rupert Murdoch (Chief of Newscorp) was
impressed with the manner in which Chief Minister Krishna conducted
himself. He felt that here was a man who wanted to do something
for the state."- Lalit Ahuja, Newscorp's (Star TV) CEO in India.
"Now the government has made an opportunity for the investors
and the industrialists to interact. It's up to them to make use
of this opportunity." - Investor from Hubli, about a joint venture
proposal.

ventures. The main bottlenecks of water and power are being cleared
through reforms, though these have to pick up speed. But this government
clearly means business." - H C Rao of the Brigade Group.
"It is our responsibility to ensure we put together policies
and processes in place to ensure that the country grows and advances
economically." - Addressing the GIM, Union Finance Minister, Yashwant
Sinha, while appreciating the efforts of S M Krishna.
"Every thing is fine so far…more than fine…what the government
will do from tomorrow is much more important." - An unnamed foreign
delegate on the services provided for the investors.
"The follow-up will be relentless. The work is cut out for all
bureaucrats. My office will continuously monitor the progress of
the follow-up action." - CM of Karnataka, S M Krishna.
"True to Sir M Visvesvaraya's style, Karnataka has set the trend
for the nation and re-establish its leadership and that is what

"I do not think that Delhi-level clearances will be that formidable
for us to have a minister. We will use all modern tools such as
fax, email and videoconferencing to expedite them."
