orders? Well, now you can be an entrepreneur! The Small Industries
Service Institute (SISI) shows you how.
The
institute located on West of Chord Road, Rajajinagar, was set up
by the Government of India to supplement the activities of the State
government in promoting small scale industries. The SISI network
in Karnataka State is a part of the national network under the Small
Industries Development Organisation.
SISI renders technical consultancy services in the field
of mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, glass and ceramics,
electronics, leather and metallurgy; management services in
areas like personnel, finance, marketing, quality control, economic
information; and export promotion services to the small scale
industries, according to Mr Mahabala, the Director of SISI.
The qualification required to join the training programmes conducted
by SISI differs. There are courses for school leavers, for
those with 10+2 qualification, and for graduates.
Mr Mahabala says that part time management courses
are targeted at those who are already employed in the areas of industrial
and financial management, production, marketing, export, packing,
working capital, quality control management. A graduate degree is
the minimum qualification required to join these courses.
The fees for these courses is Rs 1,000 and the duration
is ten days. They are held at regular intervals throughout
the year.
SISI conducts specific technical training programmes
for the benefit of prospective entrepreneurs in various fields
like machinist trade, scientific glass blowing, lens grinding, decoration
of glass and ceramic ware, plaster toy making, leather utility articles,
T.V. and radio repairing, soldering and de-soldering techniques,
manufacture of small transformers and coil winding, carpentry, hosiery
and knitting and blue print reading. The minimum qualification
for these technical training programme is 10+2 and the fees
differs for each technical training programme, ranging between
Rs 1,000 to 3,000. The duration is from a few weeks
to five months.
Cottage
industry products like mosquito coils, detergents, vessel washing
powder, liquid soap and wax candles making through simple processes
is being taught here to cottage industry entrepreneurs on
"nominal fees."
The short term courses at SISI are conducted about five
times a year and information regarding commencement of the courses
is published from time to time in local newspapers. Admission norms
are as per government reservation quota.
Keeping in view the flourishing IT industry in the state, the institute,
in cooperation with the Government of Karnataka, is planning to
start a three-month short term training programme for computer
science graduates. On completion of training, trained computer
science graduates can open up their own small enterprises to produce
ancillaries for IT giants like Infosys.
