Bangaloreans
are always hungry for concerts, gigs and funky happenings.
This fact was quite evident at the Channel V
Road Show event held recently in Palace Grounds.
People thronged the venue much before the event
and during the programme the surging crowds even
broke the barricade. Despite that minor mishap,
the event was a tremendous success, both the performers
and the audience enjoying every bit of it. |
| The
event got a jump-start with the Bhangra beat
giving a blast off. 'Balle Balle Boys', yet
another Punjabi pop group emerging on the Indipop
scene, entertained the audience with some foot tapping
numbers. But the entry of the new pop girl in town,
sent the boisterous crowd into raptures. Vasundhara
Das, the bewitching Bangalore girl enthralled
the audience with her husky voice, singing numbers
from her newly released album, 'Meri Jaan'.
But when she sang 'Shaka Laka Baby' number
from her hit Tamil film, the crowd erupted and screamed
for more. |

Mehnaz
has been there on the pop scene for the last
ten years and despite her young age can be called
a veteran. She sang numbers from her forth coming
album and also a few old Hindi classic hits, which
kept the audience on their feet. |
| When
you have a pop or a rock concert in a city as big
as Bangalore, one can expect the young crowd to
be a little unruly. If the performers set an upbeat
mood, then it's much more difficult to calm the
roaring crowd. But the soothing voice of Shaan singing
a melodious "Gumsum ho kyoon" touched
the audience. With "Tanha dil tanha safar"
he got the crowd singing along, taking them
back to those nostalgic days of college. "Mus
mus haasi" and "Roop tera mastana"
mesmerized the audience, proving beyond doubt
that Shaan is the only solo artiste of repute still
remaining in the pop charts. |

After
a short interval came the grand finale of the evening.
'Euphoria' is one of the few remaining rock
groups in the country and they began their performance
with their inimitable style. "Dhum pichak
dhum" made the crowd go ga ga. On the whole,
it was an enjoyable evening, tailor made for the
young crowd. |
