Statues of Bangalore City

Bangalore has numerous statues honouring those who had contributed in some measure to the development of the city or the nation. These statues grace the parks, public squares and circles. Bangalore has been impartial in honouring history. It has immortalized in stone and marble, personalities ranging from Statesmen, Politicians, Poets, Philosophers, Architects, Dewans, Kings, Queens and also the lesser known like the humble gardener in Bangalore Palace standing by the Palace Gates.

Sri Chamarajendra Wodeyar Bahadur: (1881-1894)

The great Maharaja of Mysore whose statue is situated in Cubbon Park.

This statue in front of Lal Bagh glasshouse was dismantled from Curzon Park of Mysore and installed here in 1908.
Queen Victoria:

Queen of Great Britain and Ireland. The statue stands imperiously in front of Cubbon Park. George Frederick Ernest Albert, Prince of Wales & Duke of Cornwall & York unveiled this statue on the 5th February 1906.
Statue of the unknown Soldier at Minsk Square near Raj Bhavan. The statue was erected in memory of the men in Bangalore who gave their lives in the great World Wars, and also in the Kashmir Operations, the NEFA Operation and the Indo-Pakistan Wars
Sir Mark Cubbon:

He was Commissioner for Coorg and Mysore 1834-1861. An eminent ruler who played a key role in ensuring the economic and physical stability of the state. The statue was unveiled in front of the Karnataka High Court in March 1866 by Lewin Bowring.
Sir K.S.Sheshadri Iyer: (1883-1901)

The Dewan of Mysore for 18 consecutive years was an illustrious administrator. The staue is situated in front of the State Central Library (also called Cubbon Library). This statue was unveiled by the then Viceroy and Governor General, Lord Charles Baron Hardinge of Penshurst on the November 20, 1913.

Dr M.H. Marigowda:

The former director of horticulture who made Karnataka, a model state in the field, by revolutionising the crop development.. He was honoured with "Jewel of Horticulture" title. The statue was unveiled in front of Lalbagh by the then Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily on 24-4-93.

Dr K. V. Puttappa:

A Jnanpith Award winner, otherwise known as Kuvempu, the former Vice-Chancellor of Mysore university and one among the famous poets of India. Former chief minister, S.Nijalingappa unveiled the statue at Lalbagh entrance.
Prof. B.M. Shreekantaiah:

A versatile figure in Kannada literature was otherwise known as Ghanavidwansa. This statue was gifted by B.M. Shreekantaiah Pratimaa Samiti and unveiled by the then Vice Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri Siddharamaiah. The statue is located at South End Circle.
Dr Devaraj Urs:

He was Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1972 to 1980. P.V. Narasimha Rao, formerly the Prime Minister of India, unveiled this statue on August 31st, 1994 in front of Vidhana Soudha.
Kengal Hanumanthaiah:

He was the Chief Minister of the State of Mysore from 1952 t0 1956. The then President of India, Gyani Zail Singh unveiled the statue in June, 1985 in front of Vidhana Soudha.
Basavanna:

He was a great social reformer, and crusader against untouchability and superstition. He was the Prime Minister of King Bijjala of 12th Century. The statue was unveiled on 26-8-1994 at Basaveshwara Circle behind the Legislators Home.
Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya:

He was the Dewan of Mysore for six years from 1912. This statue in front of the Krishnarajendra Silver Jubilee Technological Institute at the K. R. Circle was unveiled by Sri V.V. Giri the then President of India on 14-9-1970.
Kittoor Rani Chennamma:

The great warrior who fought against the British for freedom to the very end and became a legend in her own lifetime. This Statue was unveiled by the then Chief Minister Shri J.H. Patel in October 1999 next to Sir Puttanna Chetty Town Hall.
Kempegowda:

The founder of Bangalore city, who ruled here from 1503 to 1567 A.D. The then Governor of Madras, Shri Jaya Chamaraja Wodeyar Bahadur unveiled the statue on 1st November 1964. It is located in front of the City Corporation offices.
Shivaji:

The great Maratha King famous for his guerilla warfare against the Mughal invaders. Chief Minister Shri M. Veerappa Moily unveiled this equestrian statue on 10th January 1994.
The Statue of Policeman:

This statue is consecrated to the memory of all members of the Karnataka State Police who laid down their lives in the performance of their duties. This statue was unveiled by the then Chief Minister Shri D. Devaraj Urs on 7-10-1976. The statue is situated at the corner of Nrupathunga Road and K.G. Road.
Mahatma Gandhi:

This statue at Subbanna Circle near Race Course was unveiled by the then AICC President Sitaram Kesri on Saturday 7-11-1997.
Mahatma Gandhi:

This statue is situated at the Mahatma Gandhi park on M.G. Road. It was unveiled by the then Indian National Congress President U.N. Patel on 30th October 1955.

Jawaharlal Nehru:

The first Prime Minister of India, a man who loved India, with all his mind and heart. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi unveiled the statue on
8 February 1991 in front of Vidhana Soudha.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy: (1772-1833)

The father of Modern India and the founder of Brahma Samaj. He was the arch that spanned the gulf between ancient caste and modern humanity between superstitution and science, between Despotism and Democracy. This statue is on the road that bears his name.

Rajiv Gandhi: (1984-1989)

Former Prime Minister of India, this statue was unveiled recently by Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Congress President on 18th March 2001. It is located near Nataraj Talkies, Seshadripuram.

Edward VII:

King of Great Britain and Ireland and Emperor of India from 1901 to 1910. This statue was erected by public subscription in 1914 and unveiled by Frederic Napier Baron Chelmsford, Viceroy and Governor General Of India on 28th November 1919.

Dr B.R. Ambedkar:

"The architect of the Indian constitution". Former Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri S.R. Gundu Rao unveiled this statue on 19th August 1981. It is located in front of Vidhana Soudha.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: (1897-1945)

A great freedom fighter and the founder of the Indian National Army. Karnataka Chief Minister S.M. Krishna unveiled Statue on 22nd January 2001 in front of Vidhana Soudha.
