Namma Metro (Kannada: ನಮ್ಮ ಮೆಟ್ರೊ "Our metro") also known as Bangalore Metro(Kannada: ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮೆಟ್ರೊ) is the under-construction rail system for the city of Bangalore,India. The agency responsible for its implementation is the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL). The first stretch between Baiyappanahalli to M.G. Road is scheduled to open on April 4, 2011 on the occasion of Ugadi. The metro is expected to reduce the traffic volume in areas like Majestic (Kempegowda Bus station and Bangalore Railway Station), Sampige Road, Hudson Circle and M.G. The first phase of the project comprises 42.3 km (26.3 mi) of route length with 8.8 km (5.5 mi) underground and most of the rest elevated.
The second phase of the project comprises 51 kilometres (32 mi) involving the extension of both the first two lines and the construction of a third line from IIM-B to Nagavara. The Karnataka government approved the second phase of the Bangalore Metro project in November 2010 at a cost of a Rs14,774 crore (US$3.28 billion).
