4.Bangalore Golf Club (BGC)
BGC is the oldest golf course outside of the British Isles. Established on a summer evening on June 24th of 1876, the land was previously used by an army regiment as a rifle range & training area. The course started as a 12 hole design & was transformed many a time the last being a redesign in 2000.
The annual tournaments between BGC & the Madras Gymkhana club (started in 1878) are the oldest inter-club annual matches anywhere in the world. In 2002 the fully redesigned course was opened & had the distinction of being one of the few courses in India that pioneered the use of recycled effluent water for irrigation of tees, fairways & greens. During the redesign the brief was to accommodate a 18 hole course in a 60 acre plot ( a rather tight squeeze), with a minimum of criss-crossing & without cutting a single tree.
Phil Ryan, a gentle, soft spoken civil engineer turned golf architect who has vast experience in working in the Asian continent finally came up with a “new plan” which gained universal acceptance. The new plan sets in a totally restructured & landscaped course, that is tight & calls for a premium on accuracy with the huge tree cover & is a treat to play. Of the total cost of nearly Rs 40 mn INR, 90% was generated from the internal resources of the Club & the rest by generous donations from industrial houses & individuals.
The course currently plays to a 6118 yardage from the men’s tees as a Par 70,18 hole course. BGC along with Bangalore Club is one of the oldest & prestigious social clubs in Bangalore with few thousand elite members. Located at the dead centre of Bangalore city, one can play a round of golf as a guest or as tourist. Contact :

Set to the backdrop of the picturesque Nandi Hills across 275 acres & developed by Bangalore’s most premium builder – The Prestige Golfshire Club. Dedicated to perfecting the art of luxurious living & a culture of leisure, it comes complete with ultra luxurious mansions, a planned 300 bed luxury hotel & the piece de resistance , an 18 hole championship golf course by PDA Design Consulting.
Measuring 7004 yards from the championship tees & employing the wild shaping of links courses and a distinctive bunker style, this 18 hole course offers rugged beauty as well as a tough-but-fair golfing challenge.
The most distinctive feature of British architect Bob Hunt’s creation is its amazing rippling fairways, reminiscent of the links courses of old. But there is plenty more to Golfshire Club to get the blood pumping. The mature landscape of the old farmlands has been retained as far as possible to provide a serene setting for the front nine while the back nine is more exposed to the elements. The course was built with undulating greens- several of which are two-tiered & deep, shapely bunkers. Vast lakes & streams run through the course providing challenging golf hazards as well as year round irrigation storage, ensuring that this golf course is one of the most luxurious in the country.
This is India’s first course to be managed by the TROON GOLF company & you can expect exceptional service levels here. The Golfshire club also has a fully equipped 100000 sq. foot club house replete with a restaurant ( The Falcon green), a Pro shop, Gym, Swimming pool & a wide range of amenities that will provide the perfect end to a challenging game of golf.

6.Clover Greens Golf :
In 2002 a couple of techies from Infosys chanced upon a approx 200 acre plus plot of land on the outskirts of Bengaluru -Sarjapur-Attibelle link road. It did not matter that they had to negotiate miles of pot-holed roads before arriving at the Clover Fields residential layout, since once they were there, the entire idea of residents living on a one-acre ‘farm’, with state-of-the-art facilities and a 17-acre clubhouse, clear night skies, and an ambiance considerably cooler than Bangalore, immediately gripped them.
In 2006 with Pacific Coast Design (PCD -Australia) they decided to build a golf course here.
The Par 70, 6000 yard course has large greens, changes in elevation, water in play & makes up for its lack of distance with some intelligent design. Now on the junior circuit this course has staged a fair share of tournaments in the recent years. It is also popular with Golfers from Chennai who come over for the weekend for a round or two of golf.
With a 250 yard – 2 tier design driving range, with 10 bays each the range cum training academy here is a great place to learn the game of Golf. The academy has trained professionals, a swing analysis facility, gym & a snack bar.
With Tifdwarf greens, water in play, changes in elevation, strategic bunkering & the wind – you can look forward to a interesting game of golf. The course will get more challenging over time as the tree line matures. Contact : Phone: 04344 203 024
