App-based cab aggregator Uber on Tuesday said it has launched SUV services in Bengaluru. In a promotional mail to Uber users, the US-based company said it will provide bigger vehicle that seats up to six people and carries more luggage.
The company said it will provide vehicles like Toyota Innova, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and similar vehicles.
“Today, we’re thrilled to announce a new way to get around Bengaluru – UberSUV. By selecting UberSUV, you are guaranteed to get a bigger vehicle that seats up to six people or carries more luggage. These vehicles will still be available on UberBLACK,” Uber said in the mail.
Further, the company said, it has hiked the fare for trips in Bengaluru. For long distance travel above 15 km the company will charge an additional fare for every kilo meter for UberX or UberGO.
As per the new fare, for a regular trip in a hatchback up to 15 km base fare is Rs. 35 with a travel time of rupee one per minute and per kilo meter charge of Rs. 7. While in long distance travel above 15 km the per kilometer rate will be Rs. 14.
The move from Uber comes after it expanded its presence to four more cities in India – Guwahati, Nashik, Thiruvananthapuram and Vadodara – taking the total to 22 cities in India. For Uber, India is the second largest market outside the US.
